CLBC Fall General Meeting and Closing Banquet Our Fall General Meeting saw the club moving towards more of a Committee Leadership to give all members a chance to get involved with club activities. Director Reports indicated a very positive year which saw membership rise, the introduction of Third Thursday Fun Nights, and a successful Tournament Season. A huge thank-you to all our sponsors who give us the opportunity to share some friendship and social time while enjoying the game we love. Following the meeting, the membership joined in a sing-along with Frank on guitar and Colin on the harmonica. A short game of bowls was played while tables were being set up. A hot turkey dinner, catered by Betty Wickman, was enjoyed by all. |

Beyond The Basics Coaching Clinic
A one day clinic led by our club coach Bob Reid was held Friday, August 24. The use of slides and videos was used to lead us through the skill of bowls selection, delivery, aim and speed. We then had one on one instruction as we tried to apply what we learned in class.

Thank you to The Campbellford/Seymour Community Foundation.
The Campbellford Lawn Bowling Club now has a new storage shed. It took many hands to complete this project. Thanks to Don, the coordinator and all the members who volunteered their time and effort in seeing this project through. This will be a great help to the club's maintenance crew to make frequently used equipment more accessible

We also received a grant from The Campbellford/Seymour Community Foundation to refurbish our lawn mower. The very specialized grass requires special care. The mower is set to cut the grass at about 9/64" and George appreciates the new blades that allow for this fine cut.

The Campbellford/Seymour Community Foundation also provided funds for the club to purchase a designated computer for the use of the treasurer.

Third Thursday
Follow The Jack
Lawn Bowling with a twist. We never centre the jack. Wherever the jack ends up , that's where we place the mat for the start of the next end. Excellent skill building for tournament bowlers! Bowling to an "off centre" jack teaches the bowler not to rely on ditch markings or other spots on the green to line up a shot. Rather it teaches the bowler to know his/her own bowls unique curve and to adjust to those special shots often required in games. A great way to develop tournament skills.
It was a fun night. We all enjoyed the challenge this version presented. We ended the evening with snacks and social time in the clubhouse.

Ladies Gala
Always a popular event, where the men members look after all our lady guests. From welcoming them to the green, carrying their bowls in, setting tables, serving a hot roast beef dinner, doing the dishes...good job, guys!
The Campbellford Lawn Bowling Club (LBC) was the host for what organizers say is “one of the most prestigious one-day ladies lawn bowling events in eastern Ontario.”

Learn to Lawn Bowl Program Our Learn To Lawn Bowl Program has come to an end and I would like to thank all the new bowlers that came out to give lawn bowling a try. It has been a pleasure meeting all of you and so rewarding to share this game and see the way you have progressed. Our goal for the program was that you would feel competent enough to join in a regular jitney game with our members. I think you all did amazing well and look forward to Monday when you will join our members for a game. The evening ended with treats, social time and prizes. So many people helped to make this program a success. Thanks to all the coaches who helped out with this program, to our kitchen staff, to the members who supplied snacks, to the greens crew and set-up crew and to all those that came out and played and of course to coach Judy. We hope you have enjoyed the program, meeting new people and a chance to try a new game. |

District Playdowns WS/S
Campbellford Lawn Bowling Club was host to the District 15 Singles Playdowns on Saturday, May 26, 2018. The day got off to a great start with five men and two ladies competing for District Champions. The winner of each game would be the first player to reach 21 points.
The women saw a very competitive match as Judy Steinke from Kingston Lawn Bowling Club and Mary Phoenix Parker from Belleville Lawn Bowling Club seemed very evenly matched. Three rounds of play, with one game lasting 28 ends, determined that Mary Phoenix Parker was the District 15 Women's Singles Champion.
The men played five rounds in a "round robin" format with each man getting a bye a some point. Torrential rains flooded the green in round 4 causing a rain delay with the game being completed Sunday morning. Bob Clarke of Trenton Lawn Bowling Club was the District 15 Men's Singles Champion. Playoffs were necessary to determine the second place winner, Cary Lucier of Campbellford Lawn Bowling Club. Winners of the District Championships go on to compete in the Provincial Singles Championships in Belleville on June 15, 16, 17.
Thanks to all the club members who helped get the greens in shape, helped with set up, worked as markers and kitchen staff to make this a successful event.

Dorge Invitational Tournament
The Dorge invitational brought in top bowlers from as far away as Oshawa and Kingston to start our tournament season. And what a great start! The weather was perfect, our greens were in great shape after a long winter and the bowlers were excited to get back into competition.
After the first game, a great meal prepared by chef Vern Woodcock, consisting of steak or chicken, baked potatoes and veggies was enjoyed by the competitors. This was washed down with free Bud Lite provided by the sponsor and tapped by co-sponsor Christine. Dessert consisted of rhubarb and strawberry pie, blueberry crumble cheesecake and chocolate cake.
While the bowlers were competing for a total prize package of $680, the blackflies were competing to find the tastiest competitor. It was a great day and a good time was had by all, particularly the winners.
A special thanks to our great kitchen staff, Leslie Turpin and Velma Prest. Greens keepers Bill MacDonald, Frank Turpin and their helpers provided good greens for a first tournament. And of course our draw master and quick wit master Rick Barnard without whom we couldn't run our tournaments. As was indicated in the welcoming address, these three groups are vital to any tournament. A big thank you to our sponsors, Carl Dorge and Christine Woodcock.
