The best way to learn to lawn bows is by playing a game. This guide will help with the basic rules for 4-3-2-1 play. Covid modifications are shown in red.
1. You must pre-register for play. In the comments box of the sign-up tool indicate which responsibility you will look after: jacks, mat, assist, scorer.
Games will be limited to 4 rinks of 4 bowlers to allow for social distancing and adjusting to protocols.
2. Player 1 (jacks) will be assigned 2 jacks. That bowler will be responsible for setting the jack at a minimum of 2metres from the ditch.
3. Player 2 (mat) will be responsible for setting the ‘mat’. The ‘mat’ will be placed at 3 metres to allow for social distancing.
4. Player 3 (scorer) will be the scorer and will designate which bowls are in the 4-3-2-1 position
5. Player 4 ( assist) will assist the scorer by rolling the bowls into position with their foot for scoring.
6. Players will bowl in sequence by highest to lowest score in previous end to deliver their bowls.
7. Jacks that are hit out of bounds will be respotted.
8. Do not touch the bowls with your hands.
9. After scoring has been completed and agreed, bowlers will pick up their own bowls and place them together behind the mat and on opposite sides of the mat to start the next end. Leave space between each set of bowls so that bowlers will not touch any other player’s bowls with their hands.
11. Scorecards are for your enjoyment only and no action will be taken with them after play. No prizes or awards will be awarded.
