Closing The Green
October 9, 2019 The day started off with lots of dew on the grass and an ennergetic grounds crew. It took a while to get all the plugs picked up but after that everything went well. Seeding the grass, spreading sand over the entire green and then sweeping the sand in to fill the holes left by the aerating. Time for lunch!
The green is officially closed until Spring 2020. |
Fall Meeting and Banquet
September 26, 2019 A great Fall Meeting with promises of celebrations to come next year for our 100th. Followed up with prizes and a delicious dinner. Then out for a quick Spider Bowl for a lovely cheese basket donated by Empire Cheese and finished with our last jitney of the season. A perfect way to wind up the season.

Two Jacks
September 19, 2019 The Game: Each lead rolls one jack. Lifted and placed 1m either side of the centerline. Usually both jacks, remain separate targets throughout the end, which encourages every player, to rely on direct draw shot skills to score points. Bonus Points: A bonus point for a “toucher” Penalty Point: Drive shots accrue two penalty points. This is to encourage bowlers to draw and to actively discourage bowlers charging through the head, ‘looking’ for luck. A drive is a bowl that finishes in the ditch. Scoring: The normal score system is used and begins from either jack. This first jack is then removed. No bowl is to be disturbed. The same normal scoring system is then made to the second jack. The score totals from both jacks are recorded on the card. Two Jacks?! Well, that makes it a whole different game. Lots of strategy developed here.... which Jack should I try for? Can I count for both Jacks? What if I move that Jack?
It all made for a fun night for our last Third Thursday of the season. |
Campbellford District High School September 18 & 20, 2019 Once again the high school students came out to "Give it a Try!" Evaluation forms agreed it was easy to learn, easy to play, difficult to master.
We would love to see more youth players come out and join us for a game. Hope to see you next summer and bring a friend to give it a try. |

Ladies Gala Tournament |
What a great day! Nice to see so many new bowlers out to compete in their first tournament. The men did a fabulous job looking after the ladies, bringing in their bowls, serving lunch and even doing up the dishes. Just before the third game, the ladies enjoyed a game of Spider Bowl to win the gift donated by Wine Barrel II of Campbellford. |
One of our sponsors, Bobbins and Bows had home sewing available for purchase. A good chance to purchase some gifts for those special occasions.

And the winners are:

Green On The Green |
Green was the colour of the evening. We had a green door, green music, green food and everyone was dressed in green. Scores were doubled on PowerPlay ends 3,6 & 9. Our Learn To Bowl participants had a chance to play with our regular members and they were awesome! The perfect way to spend a summer evening.

A special door prize supplied by Island Park and Philosophy Boutique
|
The Island Park Tournament requires one novice on the team providing a great chance to introduce novice players to tournament play. Thanks to all the novice players who took advantage of this opportunity. It was a great day.
Our computerized scorekeeper program used at the Dorge Tournament generated so much interest that we introduced a Lunch and Learn Program to the day to show bowlers how the program works, what it will do and won't do. A special door prize supplied by Island Park Retirement Residence and Philosophy Boutique added to the fun of the day. |

Tonight was all about the jack. Another fun night when we learned how to deliver the jack and how to centre it when it didn't go quite as straight as we planned.

Monday, June 3, 2019 Learm To Bowl |
Welcome to our fourteen new bowlers in our Learn To Lawn Bowl Program.
The evening started with some indoor instruction and learning how to get down to roll the bowl. We learned the difference between a ball and a bowl and how to grip a bowl. Then outside to practice the pre-delivery, delivery and post-delivery of our bowls. It was a bit cool outside tonight but the hot coffee and warm friendship helped to warm things up. Well done new bowlers! |

Dorge Invitational Tournament Winner
2nd 3 Game High
|
Our Tournament Season opened with The Dorge Invitational, our premier event, drawing in top bowlers from as far away as London and Ottawa.
Our green was in great shape and the weather cooperated to make the day a huge success. Last year we introduced our on-line tournament registration streamlining the registration process. This year, our new computerized scorekeeper program generated much interest from all the bowlers. It performed well with results tabulated quickly so bowlers could get back on the green for the next game. |
